The Ratcliffe Spitfire

Led by Mr Dom Berry (Head of Art & Design), Ratcliffe College students are recreating a replica of an MK1a Spitfire using mainly wood but also real parts of an old Spitfire which, piloted by an Old Ratcliffian Paul Baillon, was shot down over Sailsbury plains in 1940. This project not only honours the hundreds of aircrew who flew from Ratcliffe Aerodrome during WWII, but it also to helps to engage the students’ interest in engineering, woodworking and problem solving.
