The Music Department were looking to raise funds towards a new Grand Piano at Ratcliffe. We are delighted to announce that in conjunction with the Foundation team, and thanks to donation from parents, Old Ratcliffians and friends of the College, the appeal raised £19,757!
Whilst we were lucky to have pianos in each practice room at Ratcliffe, the Music Department identified the need for a ‘concert’ grade grand piano that students can develop their ability to play with different tones and dynamics; enabling students to perform recitals, invite musicians into school to run masterclasses and to allow for a musical concert series; all things we are unable to facilitate as well with our current pianos.
Mrs Markham, Head of Music in the Preparatory School tried out some pianos in Nottingham just before the June 2021 half term break and the new piano arrived on their return!
The children are already enjoying practicing on the new piano and can’t wait to do a concert in the autumn term. Mrs Markham enthused, “I was overwhelmed at the support we received towards this appeal, especially during this last, very difficult year. I would like to thank everyone who has donated.”
